There’s hope for us all!! For the players who missed the cut at the VIC PGA there was an option to play a pro-am at Moonah Links today. It’s an interesting course, Moonah, and one that sets off many debates. Is it worthy of being labeled the “home of Australian golf??” Hmmmm…. not so sure. It’s certainly a nice location set in rolling dunes with holes weaving in and out of the natural landscape. But where many people question the nature of the layout is the placing of the bunkers all over the fairways. The intention was to force the player to think about the line and distance they hit their tee shots. I’m not so sure Thompson has achieved this at Moonah Links as many a player will find the bunkering too “chancy”. Overall though I find Moonah a pleasure to play as it’s in great condition and has some beautiful large sloping greens which can house many varying pin positions.

VIC PGA – Practice Round

The Victorian PGA is on this week at Sandhurst GC, North Course. The course is in superb condition and given the hot weather should prove quite a test.

I’m pleased to return after a short break and the renewed energy should hold me in good stead.

Live Scoring

Break time and then back into it!

Some may be wondering why I’m
not playing the NZ PGA this week. I decided to not play the event and make sure I had a good break to get ready for the training ahead.

Since I started training seriously for golf in 2003 I cannot remember a time when I had more than 1 week away from my clubs. I’ve always just been so happy to play the game, to train, to think of better ways to shoot lower scores. Towards the end of last year things started to change. The fatigue started to show and I realized I was actually burnt out. That was something I have never experienced before as I love the game so much but no matter how much you love something you need time away from it to refresh. So I’ve had a good break and will recommence training again next week in preperation for the VIC PGA.

I must say my body is feeling very refreshed and I look forwards to getting back into a solid season of training. It’s nice to give the body a rest from having to swing in the same repetitive motion.

May as well sit in the clubhouse and drink beer playing like that. Although the way I’m going I’d probably miss my mouth and spill it all over myself.

Australian Tour School – Final Round

FINAL ROUND
Gee it’s great to have status on the Australian Tour again for next year. The top 35 from the Tour School get full status on the Australian Tour for 2010. The top 60 are allowed to be Tournament members.

I hit the ball very poorly this week, but for three of the four days I chipped and putted sensationally. To get through the way I was hitting it… I’m pretty pleased. So now the golfing year draws to an end for me which I never thought would come. I’m really looking forwards to a break away from golf, however, I’m not sure how long that will be as the Australian Tour starts up again in January. I may skip the Victorian Open and start up in New Zealand.

3RD ROUND
There was a storm delay after my 6th hole when I was 1 under. I struggled after the storm delay in the wind and rain.

2ND ROUND
Just plodding along.

1ST ROUND
Low scores are there to be had. It’s going to be very hot tomorrow so a 7:10 tee time should be very handy.
