Irrigation Tasmania 2012 Highlands Pro Am (TAS)

Today we got to play what is officially Australia’s oldest golf course! Royal Bothwell I call it. It is build on a farm and has sheep wandering around which graze the fairways and maintain the course… needless to say the course isn’t in great condition but it is a unique layout and was enjoyable to play for its sheer quirkiness. It’s not often you have wire fences around the greens to keep the sheep out 🙂

Certainly one of my better rounds of late. 7 birdies and 2 bogies in the mix.

Now I’ve got a few days off around Hobart before heading in the Launceston direction. I’m thinking about finding my way up to Bridport and having a hit at the new Lost Farm GC…

I’m enjoying the hospitality of the Tasmanian’s now and will be for a bit over a week as I play the Tasmanian circuit. I have some fantastic billets here in Hobart (thanks guys!) and look forwards to playing a few new courses.

On Tuesday we get to play what is officially the oldest course in Australia, the Bothwell GC. It is built on a sheep farm and the sheep are still there! They have fences around the greens to keep them off and hay bails are used as hazards 🙂

Safety Beach is an interesting little dinky-die course. I didn’t have a great start out there: bogey, quintuple! Oh well..

We’ve got a day off now before playing a couple pro-ams near Geelong.

Unfortunately that missed qualifying by one shot. I shouldn’t have tripled the first!

2012, what is around the corner?….

Who knowns! 🙂 But seriously, it is exciting to know I’ll be playing some golf before uni starts again at the end of February. It is reassuring that uni will be rolling along and it is nice knowing a “plan B” is there. Hopefully the uni will help ease some of the pressure over the coming years but the challenge will be finding the time to do sufficient practice. My passion still rests with getting my golf game up to scratch and shooting good scores again.

I’ve been hard at work on the practice range the last month and many areas of my game are heading in the right direction for some better golf over the next month. But there is still a long way to go with it and now is a good time to get things at least heading in the right direction.

From March onwards I will probably be playing very little over the following 9 months (until uni ends) so that helps provide some extra motivation for this next little period to fire up!
