Tomorrow I’ll do a bit of alignment work on the swing and get things back on track for the Dysart pro-am, the final one of the series.

YEE HA! My first Pro-Am win 😀 . I’m really happy to have capitalized on a good first round and close it out. It’s also good to get the Mining Town series off to a great start.
It’s fair to say it was just a case of doing my thing and getting the ball around. I hit my irons well and also chipped and putted fine. These sort of courses are set up for my game, so if I play nicely I will capitalize out here. If I drive it well at the right times, make the up and downs, there are heaps of birdies available. They suit long hitting and scrambling.
Anyways…. I’ll enjoy some “celebratory beverages” 😀 , then we’ll see what happens the rest of the series.
The Sunshine Tour now heads out to the mining towns. It’s time for some bush bashin’ golf. As an incentive (you need that out here) there is a bonus for the lowest aggregate score over the series. Players are required to play the following events to be eligible for the series prize:
17-18 May- Biloela Pro Am
22 May- Blackwater Pro Am
24-25 May- Emerald Pro Am
27-28 May- Middlemount Pro Am
30 May-1 June- Dysart Pro Am
The player with the lowest aggregate score over the 10 rounds will be declared the winner with the following minimum prizemoney breakdown:
1st $7,500
2nd $1,500
3rd $ 750
I will be travelling out here with my good mates, Kurt “shootout king” Carlson and Paul Dona-who?…. 😉
It should be two weeks of fun!

Hung in there all week but fell away on the back nine. It will be good to get back home.
Happy mothers day mum!
Also picked up a couple dollars in the Long Drive at the end of play on day 1. A nice little heel slider held up for third place 🙂 At least I got one of the two balls in the grid!
Sunday night was a good night for my billet Jacob, who cleaned up in the calcutta. He purchased three players and they all picked up coin. A tied 1st (David the local pro), a tied 3rd (Holloway) and a wildcard (me)! A quick little $20,000 profit. Not bad hey.

Today was a nice way to finish off the event. Not much happened the first two days, but I stayed patient and sure enough something started happening and I got it to -6 through 10. But a couple of late bogies pulled me up from making a late surge. I also got something else going today…. the runs! I sent the caddy to get some toilet paper and then I had a little squatting session in the woods. I just had to get it out… good times.
At least my caddie felt good today. Well both of them actually (his mate came out and carried the towel). A couple of old shirts and hats thrown their way made their day. They even gave me a few hugs in return.
One of the other impressive add ons at this event was the calcutta held after the first round. Each pro was auctioned off and a pool of about AU$60,000 was raised. Basically, the person who bid on the pro who ends up shooting the lowest score over the final two rounds cleans up!
So far the trip has been an absolute pleasure due to the fantastic hospitality of the locals. My billet put me up in the Lae International, gave me a car to drive around and also showed me the industrial areas of Lae where he keeps his trucks and the cargo they move around PNG. It was great to see how much joy Jacob gets out of running his transport business and the way he has been able to use his money to build roads and schools for the community he grew up in.
Lae Golf Club are very proud of how they look after the international pros and do everything they can to make us feel welcome while outdoing Port Moresby Golf Club at the same time. We will be playing there in the coming week for the South Pacific Export PNG Open.
Jacob, my billet in Lae.

Overall my first Von-Nida Tour event as a pro was a good one. I wasn’t hitting it well but I ground it out as best I could. Next week I’m off to Papua New Guinea to test the waters over there. Should be interesting.
Also note: we are playing a 17 hole golf course this week. The 14th green was accidently poisoned so they took the hole out of play. So that explains why the scores look so good!!!
