Update

My apologies, for putting up no updates, to all those who have been following my site this year. Rest assured I am in one piece and I am still into my golf 🙂 (although I have not been playing much recently). As I mentioned after the Australian Open at the end of last year, I needed to think through some possibilities (both in life and golf) and start taking some positive steps forwards again.

As most of you are aware I like to keep comments about my private life to a minimum on this website, but as every golfer out there knows, the traveling pro’s private life is a big factor in their play on the fairways. To be honest, I was quite stressed at the end of last year and it was a good time to step back from things for a bit. As this year I only have limited status in Australia, I thought it would be a good time to explore some other avenues.

So a big update is on it’s way soon….

Happy golfing! 🙂

Australian Open – 2nd Round

MC Nathan Uebergang (+10) 75 79

It was great playing my second Australian Open. Although I must say I was disappointed with my form and I know I’ve been far from my best.

This event marks the end of my 2010 season so I’m now in holiday mode. I’m not sure what next season will bring for me golf wise. A lot will depend on what ranking I end up getting in a couple weeks time. One thing for certain is I’ll need to take a serious look at where my golf is and definitely make some time to have an extensive training period.

Last minute Aussie Open call up!

I received a pleasant phone call Tuesday afternoon which came as quite a surprise. There were a mass of withdrawals for the Australian Open on Monday which allowed a bunch of reserves to get a start. That obviously includes my name!

So I drove straight home and jumped online to get an early flight out on Wednesday. The time frame for preparation very short and today was actually my first look at The Lakes GC. The greens are diabolical. My gosh! Slopes, tiers and valleys everywhere. You could have some nasty putts where you may even be better off pitching the ball. Given todays rainy weather it was a little hard for me to tell how this course will play but thank goodness the greens have now softened off a bit.

I picked up a new driver yesterday which is fantastic! Thank goodness it came. The driver I’ve been using was a terrible fit for me and the difference became really clear when I hit my new driver. It is a Ping Driver with a Mitsubishi Kai’li shaft.

Anyway, much work is to be done and good concentration is needed. Well placed approach shots will be critical to have any chance of sinking some putts and getting into contention.

FINAL ROUND
What an enjoyable week this week has been. I had my best mate Chris on the bag with me, helping me around the course each day. His dad and my brother were also able to come to Melbourne and enjoy the week that is the Masters. And the coolest thing is my fiance was able to come over for a few days and share in the week as well. Just fantastic.

2ND ROUND
It’s really nice to be playing the weekend at the Masters! I played well today but just had a little slip up on the closing holes after not taking advantage of some good shots. I hit it to 4ft on 16 but missed the putt. On the par 5 17th I drew a 3W to much which bounced along the right side and rolled out of bounds. I had to go back to the tee and was able to hit 3W and 6i on the green to save bogey. On the last I hit a great drive into the wind and a nice 4 iron which ran over the green. I lagged the putt up to 4ft but missed the birdie. Overall I drove the ball really well today and made some nice saves early in the round.

Australian Masters practice round

I arrived on Monday morning and had my first look at the Victoria GC course for the first time. What a great layout! The course is in immaculate condition. You’ve got to love a course that starts with an exciting short par 4. The greens overall are very sloped and the ball can sneak away from you very quickly if you are on the wrong side of the hole. It will be important to control your ball and put it below the hole all week.

It’s a great atmosphere out here as all the players look forwards to another great Masters.
