I just got a spot in the Fujisankei Classic!!

Wow!! I can’t believe I got into the event today. Early Monday I was 10th reserve looking like no hope of getting in. I was sitting at my computer getting ready to change my flights. Then later Monday afternoon I checked the latest play-field status and I was up to 2nd reserve. THAT actually gave me some hope. Maybe I should hang around for a few days and see what happens. You never know.

So being a reserve I turned up early Thursday morning and sat around. To keep myself busy I played on Craig Parry’s Nintendo DS, ate a MASSIVE breakfast, hit a few balls on the range…. then, at around 11:30 the JGTO staff came up to me and said, “Nathan, your tee time is 12:20. Good luck!”

The Fujisenkei Classic is the last event before the second rerank. I need to do something here to keep my season alive in Japan. Time to make the most of the opportunity, I say 🙂

I’m struggling mentally on the course at the moment and I realize how poor a job I’ve been doing out there. I’m looking forwards to going home, sorting out my head and refocusing by learning from my mistakes.

End result of missing nearly every fairway = horrible score. I wonder if I’m allowed to throw it off the tee?

Kansai Open Golf Championship – Practice Round

A three week swing starts now on the Japan Tour. I have just arrived in Osaka for the Kansai Open Golf Championship. This event will be followed by the Vana H Cup KBC Augusta in Fukuoka and then I will be heading up to Tokyo to pre-qualify for the Fujisankei Classic the following Monday.

The Kansai Open is a new event this year on the Japan Tour. As you will notice is a very small purse compared to the other tournaments but it is still a great opportunity to win a title.

Great little event on a course with 27 par 3 holes. You’d get a good iron game playing on this little track a lot.

Another week and another event in beautiful Hokkaido. This weeks course, Otaru CC, is absolutely stunning! It’s one of the best kept golf courses I’ve ever seen. Not one blade of grass is out of place here. Otaru CC is a very traditional golf course and boy can they set it up long. From the championship tees it measures 7,535 yards and because of recent rain there will be no run on the fairways, but that’s nothing new. All the Japanese courses have had soft fairways.

On their website you can view these great video fly overs of each individual hole. Well worth a look to see one of Japan’s oldest and most beautiful layouts:

Guys, this is a bit of a late notice, but I’m pleased to announce I’ve signed a one year agreement with TaylorMade-adidas Golf. As part of the agreement, I will be playing TaylorMade drivers this year as well as also wearing the cap. All other equipment is optional. I must say the Adidas range of apparel they sell in Japan is just stunning! Brighter colours, better fit… It’s a lot nicer than the range we get at home.

I’m very appreciative of the support I have received during my first season here in Japan from TaylorMade-adidas Golf. I’m enthusiastic about competing in Japan and it has always been a goal of mine to play on the Japan Tour.
